Ariston Fridge

I have a tall Ariston fridge-freezer - the self-defrosting type.

The inside top right-hand corner of the fridge compartment ices up very quickly - I thought that it might be the drain hole getting blocked up, but having unblocked it, and defrosted the fridge manually, it still ices up (even though the freezer remains clear).

I notice that there is a thin metal tube around the back in the same place where the icing up starts, but I don't know what this does.

Any ideas anyone? How can I fix it?

Is your fridge stat in that corner? It could be the thermo probe has become " gunked up" and therefore there is a false reading at the probe causing it to run for longer and ice up. Or it could be short of refrigerant.

There is a small (about 4cm diametre) disk-shaped panel with a single phillips screw holding it in place *near* that corner - on the inside of the fridge. Is that it?

There is a short (about 30cm) thin metal tube at the rear of the fridge at the same corner.
It does sound like your thermostat, if you followed the thin metal tube it should come to the stat bulb , check that this is free from the fridge compartment wall and in the " surrounding air". The small disc eill be probably the entrance to the stat body itself. If you turn the stat back and forth it should click at the correct temperature that the fridge is, if not your stat has gone, but don't get a pro, just empty it and get a universal stat or VL 1 stat from a Wolseley centre and literally swap the wires over.
