I've done a silly thing involving a ring

Any bright (and practical) ideas on how to get my wedding ring off my ring finger on my right hand? A glass of wine too far and a thought on what it would look like.

My finger on the right hand is larger than the left, and is swollen with efforts to remove the ring. The ring is a Russian tri-band, and to make matters worse I have got it on wring so the rings don't slip over each other as intended.

I am staring down the barrel of chopping it off. Not quite sure whether I should cut off the ring or the finger. The looks I am getting suggest the finger, and any alternatives are welcome and will be tried. Oil, butter, soap and WD 40 have not worked yet, nor has ice.

Hello Trotbot,
Get it cut off then take it to the Jewellers Shop, Decide which finger you want it on and get the ring sized to that finger. End of story. Good Luck. Alligator
Oooh cr@p, poor you, have you tried olive oil or butter failing that , a strict diet. Sorry babes can;t think of anything else, good luck. Alternatively go to the Fire Station maybe thru will cul it off.
Sorry cut not cul>
Pile cream is good. ;0)
Hmmm, me thinks you took it off your other hand for a different reason...
Try putting your hand in the freezer compartment for a while, but dont do this until you have just got up in the morning. And dont do it if you have just been trying to get it off in the few minutes before, as you would have caused it to swell.
Hey 'MrBen5', that did occur to me too!...
You could try the method mentioned in the link below. You can also try one which I've recently heard of which may be successful.
It's a bit difficult to explain but here goes.
You need some very thin chord.
Poke a short tale of the chord under the ring TOWARDS the wrist leaving a long length trailing towards the fingernail. It may be easier to do this on the palm-side of the finger where you may get a bit more movement.
Now you need to wind the long chord tail round and round the finger as tightly as you can bear on the fingernail side of the ring. This has the effect of compressing the finger, and is obviously easier if you have someone to do it for you. Continue until the chord goes right over the knuckle.
Next, you take the short tail and pull gently in a winding motion, this makes the ring move up over the tightly wound chord and eventually over the knuckle.
Give this a try, but if it doesn't look like it's going to work, follow my advice in the link below, do not wait too long before making your mind up.

Just to add, when you wind the chord round and round, keep it close together so there's no skin peeping through the loops of chord.
Good luck, but once again, if it doesn't work, follow my advice in the link.
Sorry, in my first answer that first line should say "the method mentioned in the link above."

Gazzawazza, you are a star, thanks. It worked (it also hurt, but that is besides the point). I ended up using a very thin strip of soap soaked surgical gauze, which was thin and strong.

Get Golam to take the ring off for you
Thanks Trotbot, glad to be of service, but I see you've actually took it to another level using soap-soaked chord. Must remember that myself for future reference.
A and E and cutting tool :(
