Do you have more than one meter monitoring your electricity ?
Sorry does your friend have. It tends to be because the new company can not update tariffs on a meter that is no longer used, so it should be disconnected first.

My friend only has the one meter but it records 3 different readings, heating, hot water and day time. Heating and hot water are at one rate and the day time is at different rate and it is economy ten. The company he wants to go to are telling him he can not because of related meter belonging to E-on. Any further help would be appreciated.
The new company may have to change the meter, I recently changed both gas and Electric suppliers from E-on to Utilita (Smart meters) they run both as top-ups. However not sure in your Friends case but they came and fitted new meters and returned the old ones to the previous supplier.

No hassle, E-on want to keep you, they (New Supplier) want you as a costumer if its proving a problem I suggest a different supplier that's happy to have your (Friends) custom. and will help with any problems rival companies try to throw at you.
As your friend is on economy 10 heating not a lot of electric providers do eco 10 tariffs ( 3 readings meter ) If their contract term has finished with E.on they can change provider to SSE/Scottish Hydro or EDF. However there is not much difference in tariffs.

The only other way is to go on a standard flat rate (2 reading meter) but this could be more expensive.

Regarding related meters

Eco 10 - meters record 3 reading DAY/NIGHT/AND READINGS FOR THE 10 HOURS OFF PEAK your friend gets with his heating.

Standard - meters have reading DAY/NIGHT or Low/Normal etc.

This link will help them. :)
It may with a pencil and paper work out better if he changes

Eon I have found not good - and it doesnt surprise me there is a premium to leave.
Utilita when my minions looked, did not have a standing charge (per day) - and so rather obviously cant have the lowest rate per KwH - but DID have when you looked at the whole lot.

Meters are expensive to run - so you know where you are but pay for it
