I have recently installed Office 2002 on my Laptop, it is already up and running in my desktop and works fine.

Everytime I create a spreadsheet in excel, it lets me create it no problem but then if I try to access it again later or email it somewhere, it breaks!

I have put my office disc back in and clicked the repair option, no difference. I have been to the Microsoft website and installed all the office updates it recommended, no difference.

When I try to open a file, I get 'requesting virus scan...' across the bottom of the screen and it is at that point that it freezes.

Has anyone any idea how to stop this virus scan or any ideas how to get it working? I'm fed up of losing work!

What antivirus program do you have installed?
Question Author
Norton Antivirus
Well, I'm not going to repeat any of my rants about Norton (I posted them often enough). Suffice to say, if you get the problem fixed, you're bound to get others!

I suggest you uninstall Norton and get the free AVG antivirus from Grosoft. You can get it here:

Oops! grIsoft, not grosoft!
I second rojash's suggestion.

Norton makes some of the worst programs available.
Uninstalling Norton will not stop Excel doing a virus scan when it opens.
Maybe not, but at the moment it doesn't do a virus scan - it hangs!
