Im having a problem with our proxy server and IE6. I put in a web address and I have a box pop up that asks for my user name and password. I enter these and IE6 says the page cannot be displayed. I then have to refresh the page to get the site I want. This happens everytime and only happens with IE6. I am up to date with patches from MS. Anybody else encountered this and if so how did you fix it?

need more information. The pop up box you see should mention at the top the name of the server providing the pop up box. Is this the same server as your proxy server, or is it authentication required by the site you are visiting. If it is the former, you need to check with your proxy server manager that you are using the correct username and password. If it is the latter, then you need to check with the owner of the web site you are visiting. Hope this helps...

Its the proxy authentitcation box and I am the IT manager so I know the password is correct
What proxy are you using? I can understand that you are getting authentication requests because the proxy thinks you aren't a member of the "web users" group. What if you allow everyone full access? What kind of client are you using? Try having the clients as firewall clients rather than secureNAT or Web proxy clients (this is for ISA server BTW).

The proxy is Squidalyser http://ababa.org/ and the we are mosly running Win98 with IE6. If I downgrade them to IE5 or 5.5 it will go through without the need for a refresh, but I am now putting our first WinXP machines on the network so im stuck with IE6.
