/// They added: “The typical fictional homicide is part of a planned series committed by a middle-aged white man or woman who is not intoxicated, sometimes using a bizarre weapon. In contrast, real homicides were almost all single, and were usually carried out by often intoxicated younger men from a more diverse ethnic origin, in an unplanned attack using a kitchen knife. They were also more likely to have a diagnosed mental disorder.” ///

In the quest to include more ethnic minorities actors in such mainly white TV shows such as Midsomers Murders, perhaps these could be cast as killers, so as to correct this inaccuracy?

Are you sure you don't have an axe to grind either?

I mean, did you miss the point I made earlier about the fact that Hungerford would have made a better example of mass murder, because it was set in an environment much like MSM, and therefore could prove the show's 'realism'?

Is it not true that the axe you have to grind is that you are concerned about crime amongst immigrant communities and will use every occasion to throw light on it?

Is that your axe.

Are you currently in the process of grinding it?
emmie

No, definitely BBC1.

Don't think you can get it on BBC iPlayer at the moment, but I've heard the BBC are going to launch a new service (much like 4oD) where you'll be able to watch old shows through the portal.

I had one but some 'Immigrant' pinched it for some reason :0)
And on that bombshell...
As to the link: I doubt the word 'usually' in 'usually carried out by...'. Most murderers are known to their victims. Indeed, many, perhaps most, homicides could be termed 'domestic'. And most killers do not have a diagnosed mental disorder. Most are not young men .

What is true is that a disproportionate number, in terms of per centage of their age groups, are committed by young men.

When a murder occurs in the leafy confines of a place like Midsomer, it is highly unlikely to be by a young, mentally disordered man from one of the diverse ethnic origins, nor is it likely to be by knife. It is far more likely to be by firearm and the killer more representative of the local population than of that of south Tottenham
but it won't be on the scale that the programme produces, otherwise it would be like the gunfight at the OK corral
P.S I congratulate AOG on yet again dragging a favourite hobby horse before us for our inspection.

Glad to be of use, it is what makes Answebank so popular, otherwise there wouldn't be the responds that certain subjects attract.
Most of the violence in Midsomer involves heavy wooden objects, or as they're better known, the cast.
brilliant, i vote that best answer.
