Abs Warning Light

On my way home tonight my ABS warning light came on, and stayed on.
It was dark and raining so I risked driving home (about 20 miles) with fingers, crossed hoping everything was OK.
At home I consulted the drivers handbook and it warns not to drive with the light on, and get it checked as soon as possible.
My car (Chevrolet Kalos) drove as normal and there seemed nothing wrong with the brakes.
Have I done any damage driving home, and what could be the possible causes?

Doubt if it's done any damage driving home, just means that you had no ABS, there are a few causes to put your ABS light on, it's fairly common for it to be one of the ABS sensors on one of the wheels though. You will need to have it plugged into a diagnostics computer to know for sure where the problem is though.

Thank you tonynav, unfortunately I go on holiday tomorrow (by train) so I will get it checked as soon as I come home.
Glad you said by train, denis lol. It's ok though, your brakes will still work ( but without the ABS ).
Try it again in the morning before you leave, Denis, possibly just a bit too much water about the gubbins.
Sensor probably though on the related Matiz it is common for the stator band around the driveshaft(segmented band the sensor sees) to rust and split and fall off.
You can source new bands but by the time youi have got the driveshaft off repaired it and replaced, you may as well fit a new shaft.
