Apparently Benn has been seriously ill in hospital for 4 days now, but only now being reported. I for one wish him a speedy recovery.

I think he has been ill for quite some time. Went to see him speak last year, but he subsequently cancelled many of the remaining dates on his tour. My best wishes to him too - an honest and good man.
dave - he is a politician, how can you use the word "honest" in the same sentence?

I have a soft spot for him and wish him well
as do I, GWSTB
He has done well for a lifetime of pipe smoking.
I wish him well also.
me too. I think he has leukaemia
I entirely agree with the sentiments expressed.

I heard him talk at Glastonbury Festival a few years ago, and everyone in the tent was nodding - he just talked complete simple sense - almost unheard of in a politician.
Yes, get well soon sir, I agree with almost none of your politics but I do applaud your anti EU stance, you will be sadly missed when our current crop of politicians roll over to the gravy train.

I met him a couple of times when I worked in ministerial suite for Michael Foot....very charming, very gentlemanly...
He's knocking on a bit so not looking good.

I have to say I have never really liked him and indeed nearly kicked the TV in once on question time, but to give him his due he has devoted his life to his cause and stuck by his beliefs, which is something to be admired in anyone.

Still, I wish him the best.
Just read the posts.

How different right wingers are compared to the rantings and even death wishes from left wingers when it is a contentious Tory!
Well I wish the Viscount Stansgate a good recovery......
Two of them? They're falling like flies!

R-i-i-g-h-t. I think you are seeing things thru a lens of personal bias, YMB.Add to that the fact that Benn was never PM, consequently able to pass legislation and be the figurehead for policies that had such a profound and divisive impact upon our society. Then I think you would see a different tone employed. Lets not get too self-righteous in our complacency! ;)
When Heath took us into the EEC, Benn campaigned for a referendum and convinced the Shadow Cabinet to put it in the Manifesto. The 1975 Referendum was the result.

None of the current drips can say that.
