PP..the 30 mins does seem too soon and I can't find out where I have seen reference to it, so its probably not true. Sorry I have misled anyone.
It's what happens when the public sit in judgement of their favourite celebs. Rolf Harris can probably expect the same bizarre verdict!
hc4361...I am indebted to you for your more accurate info...thanks.
Just-Jude, I hope you take the time to read the full transcript of the trial before condemning the jury.
hc4361, Why should I? The jury never, they acquitted Ken Barlow!

Okay - strike out the word 'technicality'. And let's depersonalise it...

A woman claims to be raped. She reports it to the police, but the jury believe his story. They find her an unreliable witness.

Do you think that she should automatically be charged with perjury? Wasting police time?

Seriously???

I am quite shocked at that.

The reason it's shocking to me, is because the cases where women have been convicted of maliciously bringing false allegations are those where the man has not even been tried. These women have been caught out beforehand.

Do you feel this (possibly in part) because you feel that the criminal justice system in terms of rape trials, are weighted against men?
Jude, if you don't know the facts you can't have a valid opinion, just a biased, uninformed idea.
JJ...The Jury never ? Never what ? Never were there, never heard the evidence ?

They did and you weren't, so what gives you the right to make comments like you have ? Are some kind of clairvoyant perhaps ?
I assume that the jury found Mr Roche Not Guilty based on the evidence presented to them.

I just hope that Mr Roche and the women involved can move on from this.

I think I gave 30 minutes. That was because someone posted that the jury had retired, and then , about 30 minutes later, as I read it, the verdict was given. I took the first as being retired that minute , and that was today, rather than 'are retired', when they had been out some while. Over 5 hours for a unanimous suggests serious deliberation, but we'll never know, since, unlike in the US, the jurors are forbidden to discuss publicly what happened in the jury room.

Apologies.
