In the second verse of the hymn 'I vow to thee my country', there is mention of 'another country'. Does anyone know what this other country is?

Thanks

I Vow to Thee My Country

I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above
Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love
The love that asks no questions, the love that stands the test
That lays upon the altar, the dearest and the best
The love that never falters, the love that pays the price
The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice

repeat

And there's another country I've heard of long ago
Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know
We may not count her armies, we may not see her king
Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering
And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase
And her ways are ways of gentleness and all her paths are peace

Here are the lyrics which you probably already know, I have no idea though....

Sir Cecil Spring-Rice wrote it in January 1918 on his last day as British ambassador in Washington. I'd always presumed that this "other country" was Heaven.
I was always taught that it was the 'Kingdom of God' in as much as if you are a believer you live in the Kingdom of God.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to type out the hymn bonbon, however, it does not answer my question!!!

Many thanks to macsgirl and Harry - especially the extra information of him being an ambassador. I will agree with you thinking that the country is heaven - it certainly fits in well with the hymn.

Cheers folks!!
