Looks like that our boiler has finally gone. Although only about 7 years old this boiler was struggling since we had our loft converted. And I had in my mind that instead of getting it repaired, I would rather buy a better boiler once this one goes.

I need opinions please as which boiler would be better as few people talk about Worcester (Bosch) and few say Vaillant. We have a 4 bed house (3 plus converted loft). I am planning to buy a bolier myself and get it installed.

You won't go wrong with Worcester or Vaillant. I have a Saunier Duval in my own house. It's also one of the better brands.

7 years is not very long for a boiler, especially if it's a gas one. In what way was it struggling?
The Ethos or Microfil 54c if finances allow.

Thanks. Yes, the boiler is not even 7 years old. We got this fitted in Oct 2007 in emegency when we bought the house and once into the cold weather we realised boiler there was not working and the hot water was due to some sort of electric system. we were told at that time that it might not be strong enough if we ever get any extension done. Anyway, I had it covered with BG from day one and only last year when it broke down, although it was repaired but we were told by BG engineer that these boilers were not good and they may not be able to fix it again if something goes wrong with it. It is a brand name not much heard of "Sime". I had argument with BG that why they never told us before that this boiler was not good when their engineer used to come to service it. Why Only now because they had to repair it and all of a sudden boiler became no good.

Any way that was last year in Jan and I cancelled the contract with BG. Now it was making funny noises for about three weeks and now just stopped. No heating and no hot water either. So I was thinking that as we have got loft converted so it might be a good idea to get a new and more power full boiler if it is going to cost morethan couple of hundred £ to get repaired. Someone is coming in to have a look, lets see.
I'd go with a Worcester. Changed our very old Potterton for a Worcester last year. Reduced gas bills no end!
