Among the significant events that Jesus said would mark “the time of the end" was that false prophets would arise (Matthew 24:11, 12) Jesus associated the increased lawlessness and the cooling off of love with the influence of false prophets—those who falsely claim to speak for God.

Lazygun//the wiping out all life except a chosen representative few!.//

Isn't that just what the world leaders do? Why worry about the masses, just as long as the chosen ones survive! Those with money and those with power!

No. The God of the Bible does not do that. His ways are justice. He has given fair warning of the future and for those who have died, he has given the resurrection hope so they too may have the same opportunity as you and I. At the end of the day, the choice is yours and yours alone.

No, it isn't. Can you point me in the direction of any world leader whose stated objective is to eradicate all life on earth? No? Thought not...

"No. The God of the Bible does not do that. His ways are justice. He has given fair warning of the future and for those who have died, he has given the resurrection hope so they too may have the same opportunity as you and I. At the end of the day, the choice is yours and yours alone"

- Except that he did, according to your own bible! Thats what the Great Flood was all about, according to you - to wipe out this undefined wickedness, which was apparently so great, so offensive, that it merited the wiping out of all life on earth except a chosen few, allegedly.

Your arguments are inconsistent, illogical, and unrelentingly negative - and dismissive of humanities astonishing achievements, which I find offensive.

Naomi//So fundamentally a completely pointless exercise.//

No. You miss the point entirely because you are blinded. 2 Corinthians 4 v 4

Romans 15 v 4 - For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope

Just as God forewarned the people prior to the flood (possible for 120 yrs) so to today, he is warning people hence Jesus' words "just as in the days of Noah".

The difference between now and back then, this time God will not allow wickedness to come back to the earth.

LG//Your arguments are inconsistent, illogical, and unrelentingly negative - and dismissive of humanities astonishing achievements, which I find offensive.//

That is your choice. But I was not dismissive of the achievements. In fact quite the opposite.

What I find offensive about you is your lack of understanding and appreciativeness of experience. You look at the world with your blinkers on and see only what you want to see.

Even in the UK there is poverty, disease, fear etc. Okay, there is a good social system, but it is falling down.

As to world leaders wanting to wipe out masses - look at your history. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Saddam (although perhaps he was just a puppet), Pol Pot even Ceaucesu. Just because they only did this to their own does not mean that they would not have progressed further given the opportunity.

And you have the nerve and the audacity to question the Creator. IF he were anything like the dictators mentioned above, you would be hung, drawn and quartered by now!

My family are not living in fear. They are living in today's world. And it is not just my family. I speak to many mothers, fathers and grand parents. 8 out of 10 feel the same.
Another sign....what were the others?
The dictators you mention might have wanted world domination but certainly not world annihilation.
idio, strange is it not that you feel the same as your parents and grandparents, have you never suspected that they have brainwashed you and there is no creator and that you are a gullible fool.
Idiosyncrasy, you’re being ridiculous – and quoting the bible to justify it. OK, we’ll quote the bible. God allegedly said “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” Genesis 6:7

He failed. Man survived and there was no improvement – and now because someone else tells you this ineffectual God is going to have another go, that’s what you’re waiting for – and looking forward to! Doesn't the fact that he got it wrong the first time tell you something? Sheesh!

//I speak to many mothers, fathers and grand parents. 8 out of 10 feel the same.//

Which group of people are you talking about? 8 out of 10 of whom?

idiots?
Sounds like a TV ad. '8 out of 10 believers agree that god exists' :o)

"And you have the nerve and the audacity to question the Creator. IF he were anything like the dictators mentioned above, you would be hung, drawn and quartered by now"

-The nerve and the audacity? Wow - tyranny much? You apparently completely miss the irony of saying that, don't you?

"Even in the UK there is poverty, disease, fear etc. Okay, there is a good social system, but it is falling down."

-And in the UK, for the vast majority, life is very good indeed. More unrelentingly negative views of humanity from you.

"As to world leaders wanting to wipe out masses - look at your history. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Saddam (although perhaps he was just a puppet), Pol Pot even Ceaucesu"

- And which one of those wiped out all of humanity, all life on earth? Which one of those had this objective as part of their political agenda? Ermm, that would be a big fact zero. The only individual to ( allegedly, according to one very dubious source) wipe out everything on earth in order to excise the cancer of "wickedness" ( not even very well defined) was your god. They were obviously oblivious to the notion of surgical precision then.

"My family are not living in fear. They are living in today's world. And it is not just my family. I speak to many mothers, fathers and grand parents. 8 out of 10 feel the same. "

- Yes they are, from your own words.This is what you wrote;
"Today, my daughter and daughter in law are frightened to let their children out of sight for more than a few minutes without checking up on where they are." Tell me - does that mean quivering in fear, ringing up the police to submit a missing persons report every few minutes? If not it is an example of your usual exaggerated and hyperbolic twaddle. If it is real, then your family are scared of their own shadow, their perception of the dangers of the world far outstripping the reality. And anecdote ( 8/10 respondents) does not equal data.

Illogical. Poorly argued. Inconsistent. Unremittingly negative, unrelentingly hostile to humanities achievements, lacking any kind of critical faculties when it comes to examining the source of all your arguments. Asinine commentary, in other words.

Psalm 14 v 1 : “The impious fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’”

Vulcan@
If you read what I wrote you will also see that I did not say dictators wanted to annihilate the population of earth. I wrote that they wanted to wipe out "masses". But who is to say that if they had not been stopped it would not have extended to other communities etc.? Under the 5 cruelest dictators of the 20th Century it is estimated more than 35 million people lost their lives..

LG@
Frightened of something does not necessarily mean living in fear. I am frightened of spiders but I do not live in fear of them. I am frightened of dogs but it does not mean I fear walking down the street in case I meet one.

So I take it then that if one of your children/grand children should go missing for some time you will not be worried, you will not search for them. You will not panic if they were not where they should be.
As to hostile to humanitarian achievements - certainly not! But whatever mankind achieves, he cannot rid the earth of the poverty, disease, war, crime etc. He has had thousands of years and many different types of governments - but still these things are not eradicated.

Jomiflo@
Wrong. I do not feel the same way as my parents or my grandparents.

Naomi@
I speak to a cross section of the community which includes men, women, grand parents, teachers, doctors, retired and working. Even teenagers.
God did not fail. He could quite easily wipe you and me out this instant. His sense of justice shows that not all humankind would be wicked he therefore gives everyone an opportunity to choose for themselves life or death - just as he did the Isrealites. See Deuteronomy 30 v 19 & 20.
idiosyncracy // But whatever mankind achieves, he cannot rid the earth of the poverty, disease, war, crime etc. He has had thousands of years and many different types of governments - but still these things are not eradicated. //

No but of all the enormous progress that has been made on these fronts, not one dot of it was brought about by God.

The purveyors of your religion have often been in charge politically yet did absolutely nothing about poverty. They simply taxed everyone to pay for huge opulent buildings dedicated to the worship of your god while the poor lived in squalor.
Is there really any point in responding to all this stuff.
idiosyncrasy, so when you quoted that 8/10 figure, what you really meant is that you conducted your own poll from people of your choosing and deem the result an accurate reflection of society as a whole. I think not.
@ideosyncrasy - More dissembling.
"So I take it then that if one of your children/grand children should go missing for some time you will not be worried, you will not search for them. You will not panic if they were not where they should be.
- If they went missing then of course I might well be worried, and maybe would go and search for them.This is most certainly not the same thing as the state you family are in. Lets remind ourselves how you described them;

""Today, my daughter and daughter in law are frightened to let their children out of sight for more than a few minutes without checking up on where they are.""

Frightened. To let them out of their sight. For more than a few minutes without checking on them. Either hyperbolic exaggeration to make a rhetorical point, or your family need some help.

"As to hostile to humanitarian achievements - certainly not! But whatever mankind achieves, he cannot rid the earth of the poverty, disease, war, crime etc. He has had thousands of years and many different types of governments - but still these things are not eradicated"

-You are unremittingly hostile to humanities achievements. Almost post proclaims that Man has spoilt the planet, has brought ever increasing misery upon itself, that society is becoming every more dangerous, and that every negative social/cultural problem is exclusively mans fault - and that all positive impacts upon society are attributable exclusively to god. Thats offensive and inaccurate.

""No. The God of the Bible does not do that. His ways are justice. He has given fair warning of the future and for those who have died, he has given the resurrection hope so they too may have the same opportunity as you and I. At the end of the day, the choice is yours and yours alone"

- Except that he did, according to your own bible! Thats what the Great Flood was all about, according to you - to wipe out this undefined wickedness, which was apparently so great, so offensive, that it merited the wiping out of all life on earth except a chosen few, allegedly"

And you signally fail to address the point, above. What can be more wicked, more evil, than wiping out every species, except a representative few from each, in a Great Flood? And yet you religious types see this story as a miracle!
/Jomiflo@
Wrong. I do not feel the same way as my parents or my grandparents. /
There you go again, you cannot know what other people feel sopretend that you do. If there was a trace of rationality in your arguments you might gain some attention.
Take some advice, believers don't have to justify their beliefs, that is what belief is about. As soon as you try to justify your beliefs it shows that you lack the true arrogance of a believer. Since you don't therefore believe 100% you are doomed not to pass the pearly gates so can stop pretending that you do believe and start living a normal life. God knows you better than you know yourself......(assuming that god exists )

Oh fcuk!
@LazyGun

//There are 6.5 billion people in the world, around 70 million in the UK - //

Did you miss the news story (October 2011) about passing the 7 billion mark?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-15391515

If you enter 17 01 2014 as the date of birth it gives

When you were born, you were the:
7,169,213,916th
person alive on Earth

Global poverty will never go away if we keep pumping them out at this rate. Who was it who said "go forth and multiply"?
Who is it who avers effective methods of contraception?

On a funnier note
