CFN within the British army are the equavilant to Privates within different Regiments and Corps of the British Army.
The rank and term of CFN (craftsman) is only used for soldiers within the R.E.M.E (Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers).

CFN are skilled individuals who have completed an arduous technical training programme at the end of there Phase I training.
Typically CFN are Class 3 (Tradesman under supervision), Class 2 (Tradesman can work unsupervised, but have to have there work outinspected by a class 1) and in some cases can be a class 1 (Competent Tradesman/Supervisor/Inspector). CFN although refering to trade is still a part of the British Armys rank structure. there trade structure refers to the classifications (class 3-2-1). Some trades within the REME step over the rank of CFN and are immediately promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal (LCpl) during there Phase 2 training (Air Technicians).
