Had quite a few magpies on the bird table today. Do any of you remember the rhymes for magpies.
One for sorrow
Two for joy
Three for a letter
Four for a boy
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven for a secret never to be told.

Or

Ones a wish
Twos a kiss
Threes a disappointment
Fours a letter
Fives something better
Six is a journey to go.

Anyone know any more?

8 for a wish
9 for a kiss
10 for a bird you must not miss
Have to salute a solitary magpie, supposed to say something like 'Morning Mr Magpie, how's your wife'. I just salute (all day, just to be in the safe side) - makes me look like I've got a nervous twitch.
When we used to sneeze as children, mum used to say
once a wish
twice a kiss
three times a letter
four times something better.
