^Because you knew of no other plausible explanation. Not knowing that something exists does not mean that it doesn't exist. It is OK to admit ignorance it can be quite cathartic but hopefully not too cathartic.

For the most part they're only intermediaries, Gods messengers, so no need to curry favour with them. Even so, good manners would demand that one didn't ask about the state of their batteries.
