Further to my post on 31st December, and thanks to Methyl for the recommendation to try Its So Easy, I have made a few phone calls and now have a wide range of quotes.

Its So Easy quoted full cover at £186.94.

Staysure gave me a 'with exclusions' quote from £208.15 down to £124.51.

Saga quoted full cover Annual Insurance of £347.00, but when asked to remove skiing quoted £157.00 and then added a single trip ski holiday at £80.00 making only £237.00. Quite a difference between £347 and £237 for the same thing.

I hope this is of use to other OAP active members.

I have just insured with Insure and Go for an Full Annual Insurance including skiing for £132.08.
Did you do it online or via telesales operator?
If the latter, you can often barter them down by saying something like "Thanks for the info, if you give me a reference number I'll get back to you after trying one or two other companies". It's amazing how quickly they can speak to a supervisor, crunch the numbers and revise the quote.
Did that once and got car insurance (2 weeks abroad) for almost half of what was originally quoted.
