Hi,
On a recent visit to my mother, she handed me a very old green cardboard book with 'National Savings Certificate book' in my name on the front and inside were several certificates of various monetary value, dated from 1978. What am I to do with this as my mother hadn't a clue how I could get the money from it.

The Post Office were no help, they looked at me puzzled when I asked.
Thanks to all for your answers.
Thank you PP for "Best Answer"
You can do this on line, but make sure that you get the official site, and not one that will charge you a fee for their " services ",when you can do this easily yourself.

I hope that you get a very pleasant surprise at their value.
The Post Office no longer have any association with Savings Certificates - nor with most National Savings products - hence their puzzlement

As stated above, you need to contact NSI diredtly

>The Post Office were no help.

Yes, they are not responsible for the provision and administration of National Savings but it would be a poor show if they didn't know to point you in the direction of NSI. Did they offer no help at all?

I work in a Post Office and would probably have giving Purple Popple a phone number for NS and I, but some of the younger people who work in Post Offices (I can think of 2 personally) wouldn't have had a clue.

Anyway, hope you get a nice surprise Popple!
