I'd like to dye white cotton jeans to a very pale cream, a very pale grey or a very pale beige. The Dylon machine dyes are all such strong colours. Can anyone advise, please?

If you use a small portion and not the entire quantity perhaps that might work to give you a mild shade.

Or wash your white jeans with an orange garment for pale beige-looking, or black clothing for grey.
You could try the Dylon hand dyes and cold water dyes, but in my experience they are likely to give a patchy finish depending on wear patterns on the fabric, how much the garment was swished about during the dyeing process etc.
It used to be very possible to do this, using the small 'pots' or tins of hand (cold) dye, and dunking the fabric into the dye bath for a shorter time than specified on the instructions; I once dyed some white lace the exact shade of grey-mauve I needed by mixing two hand dyes and doing just this. Unfortunately the idiots at Dylon have discontinued these small tins of cold dye. I have never tried to use the (needless to say) more expensive new packets of hand dye. However the old small tins of cold dye are still available online if you search for them. It is also a good chance to stock up on peach dye as well, as Dylon have inexplicably discontinued this popular shade! nb/ Just remember that your fabric will of course dry paler than it appears when wet! Good luck.
