How do you go about putting a charge on a property where the owner owes you money for works done.
The owner is up for a quick sale to move abroad..

A charging order on property is (along with other measures, such as the use of bailiffs) at the far end of the process for chasing debts. You first need to follow the stages below:

1. Send a formal written demand to the debtor, stating
(a) your name and address ;
(b) the debtor's name and address ;
(c) the date of the demand ;
(d) the amount demanded ;
(e) the reason for the demand ; and
(f) that, if payment isn't received within a specified period (such as 21 days), legal action will follow.

2. If payment is not then received, commence court action. That can usually be done online:

3. Wait until the court has issued a CCJ and it has become clear that the debtor has defaulted.

4. Apply to the court for an enforcement Order, such as placing a charge on the debtor's property:
