I can't show you, but a new symbol has appeared on the top of my phone screen, where the wifi symbol and others appear.

It looks like a wifi symbol in the bottom left, superimposed over a large N.

It wasn't there last week - anyone know what it represents, please?

and my wifi's BT
From a talk board...Samung Galaxy Note 2. FYI- if you see a icon on upper right of your screen that looks like a “N” on top of another “N” that means you have your NFC/S-Beam on. If you turn it off it will go away.
Here's a list of the common ones: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/how-to/wp7/basics/what-do-the-icons-on-my-phone-mean
Your description doesn't fit any of them really.

Switched off - it says you can also use it if you want to transfer data just by touching another phone with the same set-up. At least I know what it is now!
