I would love to hear some suggestions - preferably from personal experience from AB-ers - for an unusual vegetarian starter for the Christmas Day lunch. Thanks in advance

Sorry, I can't offer the 'personal experience' bit of your request but I can direct you to a website where people who've actually tried the recipes have reviewed them:
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/vegetarian-christmas-starter
That index page just offers 'star ratings' but, upon clicking through to specific recipes, you can scroll down to read comments about them.

Thanks for that. I have been there and on several other sites too. It was the personal thing that I was looking for. It's always nice to get a recipe or a suggestion from someone personally. Some of the Good Food ones are rather appealing though!
Melon and mandarin in cointreau
Actually, although I'm not a veggie, I've remembered having the Mulled Pears with Roquefort Dressing when someone else was treating me to a meal in very up-market restaurant. That's certainly one starter i can DEFINITELY recommend from personal experience ;-)
