I have recently bought a digital camera (my first!) and was wondering what software people would recommend for viewing/manipulating the photos. At the moment I'm just using iphoto which is part of the Mac package. Thanks.

I would recommend Adobe PhotoDeluxe Home Edition because it's really straight forward and you can use those same download filters that apply effects with the more expensive and tricky adobe photoshop
I use FastStone Image Viewer, which is excellent, and it's freeware. It's downloadable from www.faststone.org . It can do virtually anything the expensive programs can do, and easily too.

adobe photoshop is the best but it can be very expensive to buy the software

Adobe Photoshop is hardly software for someone on their first digital camera ^^
Adobe Photoshop Elements.

what it is, is 90% of the features in the full version of adobe photoshop, but for a much cut-down price. However, much of the shortcuts etc. are in the same places as Photoshop itself, which is the industry standard for photo editing. It's also mac and windows compatible.
Just to add though, matt;

it depends how into your editing you want to get. photoshop elements is a lot more sophisticated than iPhoto, but iPhoto may do everything you want. i believe it has the basic, common editing features built-in.
