I have a laptop and access this via mains electricity and BT wifi.....no problems.

If I purchase a tablet, do I just utilise the wifi log in details I´ve got?
I assume they are battery operated and I would charge similar to my mobile.

Before I go into a store just wanted some basic facts ...in simple English.

Thank-you

Yes the battery life is usually very good (screen brightness setting can severely affect this). And yes, you just input the wifi code and away you go.

Thank-you. I was hoping it was so simple
...and you may find this Which? guide useful before you shop, too:

Can I put in a good word for Tesco here ! I have bought lots of electrical items from Tesco over the last few years and the staff have always been very helpful. Pick the lad who looks about 12 years old...he will be the one to help !

Have a look at the Samsung GALAXY Tab tablets.
Speaking of Tesco, 'Hudl' (Tesco's own tablet) gets very good reviews.
£119 budget tablet and for Tesco customers clubcard boost means they count double so £60 vouchers gets you a tablet.
