With regard to the current McDonalds TV advert which infers they were here in 1955. Can anyone confirm that -or are they referring to the US of A?

I can only vouch with 95% accuracy that there were none of these in Scotland in 1955. At that time, or maybe around 1960 we had Wimpy Bars....

@ Matheous Your wish has already been granted :) I believe that Subway overtook McDonalds over a year ago now to become the worlds largest branded fast food outlet, and has more outlets in the UK now, too, in a much shorter time than McDonalds....

Oh dear cannot remember the things, but I like the advert. Can you list the things then I may remember or not.
McDonald's opened its first restaurant in the UK in Woolwich in south London, in October 1974.
we had wimpy or greasyspoon cafes
I went for my first macdonalds probably about 30 years ago, I was horrified that you didn't get cutlery!
Must be the USA they are referring to, Mattheous. First ever UK McDonalds did not open until 1974, in Woolwich, London
LoL - I swear there were no replies when I started typing :)
The correct title of this article is McDonald's #1 Store Museum. The substitution or omission of the # is because of technical restrictions.
McDonald's #1 Store Museum

Established April 15th 1955
Location 400 N. Lee Street, Des Plaines, Illinois

The McDonald's #1 Store Museum, also known as the McDonald's Store Museum, is housed in a replica of the former McDonald's restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois, opened by Ray Kroc in April 1955.
I remember them being around when I was very young and I was born in 1978. The one Shrewsbury is built on the old town walls dating back to the 13th century! It has a medieval theme and used to have suits of armour and such and old wooden benches downstairs.
They were in the US in 1955, came over here mid/late seventies.
definitely not as early as 1950's we were still having rationing...
So their advert is modelled on their product description...... misleading.
i had my first McDonalds in Canada, before it came to UK>>
I had my first one in New Orleans in 1974.
I don't know what you are all mithering about - the advert doesnt even look like it's meant to represent the uk!
who is mithering, the question was about the date, i haven't seen the current ad so can;t tell....

I thought as much...Didn't think it was quite as late as 1974.
I am not a fan of the company and would like to see one such as Subway whom I think seem a bit healthier - overtaking McDonalds at some point, although that's probably unlikely....
