Virgin Media Broadband Is Down

1.Virgin Media Broadband wireless connection has not been working in my area in East Sussex since early this morning. When I phoned them I got a recorded message promising to put the fault right as soon as possible.
Fortunately, I can connect from the super hub to my laptop by hard wire.
2. On several occasions, when I have been unable to connect to broadband wirelessly, one of their technicians has taken control of my computer and corrected the fault in about 15 minutes.
Has anyone else had this trouble?

the recorded fault message is just one huge fob-off - in telling virgin that the phone you're calling from relates to the same account, they know where you are, and in selecting the "broadband" option from the menu, they know what you're going to complain about. the recorded message tells you there's a **your service** fault in *your postcode area*, and tell you it will be fixed at a time that corresponds to 4 hours from your call.

As methyl says, if you can use Virgin broadband with a wire between your laptop and the router then Virgin Broadband is NOT down.

The wireless connection goes from your router to your laptop (so as Methyl says it is in your house) and if that is not working then there must be something wrong with your laptop (or maybe your router).

The fact that their technicians are able to access your laptop and correct the problem indicates the problem is probably with your laptop and not the router.

However one way of trying to "clear" the problem is to turn your laptop off and leave it off, then turn your router off and leave it off for a minute or two.

Then turn your router on and allow a minute or two for that to settle down, then turn your laptop on.

You may find that has "fixed" the problem.
I would agree with what VHG says.

I have recently installed a wireless router; although my desktop PC is wired through the router – and occasionally the wireless router does not appear to be recognised by the PC. I never had this problem with my wired router.

On one occasion, I reinstalled the drivers for the wireless router to overcome the problem. I am with virgin media – but this problem is not a fault of theirs; to my mind it shows what a good service Virgin are giving you, fixing a problem with your PC.

A trick I have used that seems to work is to power down both the cable modem and wireless router (with my PC on), then power up the cable modem followed by the wireless router.
