If you receive some money as an inheritance, what is the affect of that on claiming working tax credits and child tax credits ?

Depends how much it is.

You have to declare any savings/money over 6k.
It's the impact on your savings that the DWP would be interested in. These benefits are related to income but I don't know whether there's a means tested element based on savings
I can't see any reference to savings here, although I've only glanced through it
