Where are you going? The world is a big place and over 75% of it has no internet at all.
Your laptop will show a list of available WiFi when you turn on , mine has an icon on the bottom right click on it and then on 'connect to a network' it then shows which networks are available. However most of them will have a password needed to connect. Most large Hotels in Europe have WiFi but you will probably have to pay.

Going to Nerja Spain!! Ta.
Just pop into a local bar that has wifi, buy a coffee and ask for the password, if it's near the hotel you'll have it all the time.
Here's a list of bars, which have free Wi-Fi, as long as you use their services..
