Started new thread as I suddenly thought no-one would realise there was another update although I have also posted on last posting.

7am this morning, Puss suffered an aortic blood clot (saddle thrombus)which caused his remaining back leg to paralyze. He was crying out in pain. I rang the out of hours vet and immediately drove to the vets surgery. She confirmed my fear and she gave Puss a strong painkilling injection with the drug heparin to follow. At 12.30 lunch time the vet rang to say Puss's condition had deteriorated and was on oxygen therapy. She said his prognosis was poor. We, hubby and I, decided the best thing for Puss was to have him put to sleep which is what we agreed. Both hubby and I are distraught. Puss had got over the hurdles of the past few months and was doing really well, even chased a butterfly this morning. I am finding this difficult to post but I thought you would all like to know. Thank you all for your previous posts and good wishes & purrs. xx.

Tiggerblue, Thank you for your kind words, I recall posting on your thread when Tigger was taken ill. Time is a healer, I know. Thank you petal and marval for your thoughts.
So sad to hear of your puss passing. You did him a good service by being brave enough to let him go. As I write there is a tiny scrap of a little black and white kitten snuggled in beside me, his mother was abandoned when she was pregnant and little more than a kitten herself. One day, when you are ready there will be another furry friend for you somewhere, and when you least expect it. I said we weren't going to have any more ..... now our "tribe" now comprises five (four and a half until Teddy grows up)
you and your puss will be in our thoughts tonight.
lots of hugs and purrs
So very sorry to hear about Puss. The hardest of decisions to make, but the right one for him. Take care xx
So sad pusscat, been there many times with dogs over the last 50 years. The last one really was the last. You and your hubby made the last hard and painful decision. You gave puss the best life, treasure your memories, thinking of youxx.

nungate, Owzel and Meg, thank you for caring. It would be easier to accept had he not got over the hurdles of the last few months but he was really doing well. I will have to now go to bed without him, but he will be there in my thoughts. Goodnight and thank you to each and everyone for your caring words. xx.
So sorry furrypusscat. Thinking of you xxx
Oh! So sorry furrypusscat, both our thoughts are with you. I know it's hard, but you've done the best thing for Puss.

Oh dear, I'm very sorry to read your post, puss seemed to be doing so well.

Hard as its been, you've made the kindest choice for him, but it's never an easy one, thinking of you xx

Thank you vodkancoke, boxtops, DrFilth and seekeerz. Your contributions to this and previous posts are much appreciated. Well that's the first night over, just seems pointless getting up, Puss always pawed the side of the bed to get me up then jumped over me dared I to stay in a bit longer. Having said that he was very patient and very laid back, I could do anything with him including giving him his twice daily heart medication. We will both miss him so much.
What a lucky boy Puss was to have had you. You have done absolutely the very best for him every step of the way. Hang on to this and when the raw grief passes may you remember him with a smile x

Thank you jakep, I do hope we did our best for him, I don't think we could have done anymore. The last few months we nursed and coaxed him to regain his confidence walking on 3 legs which he adapted well to. It came as a huge shock when he had the blood clot, but at least his suffering didn't go on too long and he was happy until that moment.
So sorry about your loss. After having lost both of my German Shepherds over the last few months I can understand your pain xx
Question Author
Thank you jasmin. It has been a difficult day for both of us. Sorry to hear of your losses also. Pets are a big part of our families aren't they.
Totally ! I miss them both so much, a huge void has been left in my life. They both were massive characters and I miss all the funny little things they did xx
