I am trying to connect two home computers for internet use through 4-port cable/dsl gateway router. I am not sure which cable to connect from the broadband modem to the router. Or even if I have the correct cable!! One computer linked direct to broadband modem works fine.

I have 2 cables spare

a} cable modem to usb

b} belkin components category 5e patch cable.

I have lost the manual hence I am stuck.

Look forward to some suggestions.

Have you tried to download a manual from the manufacturer's website? Many companies offer this facility for people who have misplaced or not received a manual.
There is usually 1 port that kind of stands a little farther away from the 4 computer ports. That is the one that connects to the modem. the other 4 are for your computers.

Like this, ethernet cable ( looks like a big phone cable ) from modem to router, another ethernet cable from router to your computer, and another your other computer. Your modem should not be directly connected to the computer.
