Ok I'm having a problem with this browser and I'm hoping someone can come up with a solution that allows me to use it again and bring up the last session (since I had a number of windows open I'd like to revisit.

My woman has a .mht file on her PC, supplied by her work so she can log into her work system from home. It fails in IE (which is the default application to open it) as it comes up with some warning nonsense about cookies not being allowed. The way around that bug was to change the properties of the .mht file icon to open Chrome instead, and it copes just fine then.

I decided to install it on my PC so when she visits she still has the opportunity to contact work should she need to. Since I don't have Chrome installed I changed the icon properties to open Firefox instead.

When I clicked on the icon to my surprise Firefox asked what to do with the file ! Why does it alone seem not to know what to do with a .mht ?

Well, obviously the box to tick was the one saying 'open it' so I ticked that. But it seems Firefox has trouble interpreting that simple command. Not only did it then go into a frenzy of opening tab after tab after tab after tab after tab after tab after tab after tab after tab after tab after tab after tab after tab ...... until I managed to close it. Now if I try to open it again it starts off this tab opening frenzy once more.

It seems a simple act seems has ruined its ability to be any use at all.

Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this. It looks like the solution must be without opening Firefox. Maybe a registry setting or something ?

You need a firefox addon to view mht files:- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/unmht/

Nice to know, thanks; but my main concern at the moment is to stop it opening tabs continuously on start up. If I can solve that then I'll check out the addon.

Looks possible, I'll check it out, thanks.

Not sure why but I realise I just went "Arrhhh" when it happened and immediately started asking for advice rather than doing a search, which I'd do if someone else asked :-)

Most of the suggestions required Firefox to be running and I couldn't put up with the continuous tab opening.

Searched the reg for references to mht and firefox, found a couple of things to delete. Seems to have stopped the tab opening. I'll update if it turns out to have worked.
Question Author
Aye, unsure if the deletions will cause future problems (backed up the reg prior just in case anyway) but seem to be back to normal. Thanks both.

A total of 245 new blank tabs in two windows to delete !

This add in has bought me a little more time.

But I still need to work out how to stop browsers pretending cookies are disabled.

Cheers.
