i recently sold a jumper on ebay for 25.00 the buyer chased the item a week later saying it had not arrived. i offered to fax them a copy of the postage receipt and also reminded them that they had the option when they purchased the goods of recorded delivery. which they did not want to pay an extra 80p for.

they have now complained to paypay and paypal have taken the 25.00 back of me and said thier is nothing i can do about it. this does not seem fair to me?

I think your only option is now to make a claim through Royal Mail to try and get your money back. Since you have your proof of postage I would hope you have a good chance, Ebay sucks at times like this! Good Luck :o)
Nothing new there then, just google "paypal" to see all the horror stories!
I'm sure if you ordered something to be delivered by post and complained about non-delivery, you wouldn't be too pleased if the sender just said "It must have got lost in the post. Tough!" If someone orders something, whether it be from Amazon or through e-bay, they have the right to expect it to turn up. It's up to the sender to make sure that it gets there.

Your error was in offering to post the item without using recorded delivery. (Most sellers I deal with insist that recorded delivery is used and include this in their postal charges). PayPal are to be congratulated for refunding the purchasers money.

Chase the Post Office this time and learn, from your mistake, that you should only offer to post by recorded delivery.

i had a similar incident on amazon when an italian customer said the item was not what he wanted i said send it back for a refund, instead he complained to amazon direct, who refunded him without him returning the goods! try doing that at tesco or m&s! so i lost out on the item and the postage to italy as all the money was taken he can now resell the item if he wants this is so unfair, i know it does not help you, and you have to believe your item has got lost but there is no proof they have not recieved the item if they have not had to sign for it is there?

Paypal were taking money out of my account without my knowledge and consent - I DO NOT use paypal ever now.

i know what you mean. i just get the feeling they have rec'd the item but just want it for free. but i can't prove it.

Just to back up what Chris says, the Royal Mail lose 14.4 million letters a year.
