I had a Cornish pasty last night but ended up spitting a lot of the out as it was full of fatty gristle. Can anyone recommend a shop bought Cornish pasty which has decent cuts of meat in it please :o)

The one I had was Ginsters :O(

Cornish pasties are Cornish Pasties - not in Devon, Northumberland, Bedforshire or Dorset....they have been protected as is Champagne, Melton Mowbray Pies or Stilton....

Bedfordshire does something akin to an old pasty, half meat and half fruit inside a pastry oblong. Dorset ones are an abortion as they use mince (ye-uck). As OG says, use quality chuck, potato, swede, onions and seasoning and learn to crimp the pastry, then you are away.

For example - how can this mess be a Cornish Pasty? It's crimped wrong, has mince in it, as well as peas and carrots. Yeah Gads. I'm surprised that they haven't been done yet for the misnomer. http://www.greggs.co.uk/menu/savoury/pasties-and-bakes/cornish-pasty/

^^^ how do they get away with calling that a Cornish pasty?
This might help you find a decent pasty

They aren't the cheapest but they are quality, if you use the shop locator you might find one near you,as for ginsters and gregs I'd rather go hungry

Thanks Paddy. I've just remembered that it was at London Bridge and not Victoria where I saw the West Cornwall Pasty co.
Never had a bad Ginsters pasty think you were just unlucky.
Some Cornish friends showed me how to make my own. Potato and swede diced, sliced onion, beef skirt chopped small. Salt, pepper, knob of butter and sprinkle of flour. There are some how to make pasty videos on youtube. The pastry is made from strong white flour, lard and marge. They tasted yummy!

Can't seem to find any skirt or chuck anywhere so I was looking at some rump steak yesterday. Will have a go at making some myself.
I`m from Devon too and I wouldn`t rate any of the shop bought pasties TBH. My mum tried one of the West Cornwall Pasty company ones in Kingston and threw it in the bin. The best pasties I have ever had are from Blackwells in Bideford. I see they now have a website (Devon always catches up with the rest of the world eventually)! and they do postal deliveries.
