Carried out properly (at a price!) - yes it does. How long it lasts depends on what you eat and drink afterwards.
Yes, I was told exactly the same by a Dentist. His dental assistant had had hers whitened but she does not drink much strong tea, smoke or drink red wine and hers were still glowing white after 18 months.

My dentist said it would cost about £350.

Wow! £350! I'll have to think long and hard about that. I like my tea strong and the occasional glass of red wine.
Thank you both, for the info.
I had it done, but the pens from Amazon (£3-£10) are far more effective, plus you can use them whenever you want.
I'll also add that professional whitening is very painful. Shooting nerve pain for a few days after and while it's done, which i hadn't expected.
Invest in a drinking straw.
