Does anyone know if you can make chutney in a bread maker and would you have to change the recipe?

I can't seem to find an definitive answer anywhere. I spent 1.5 hours 'watching' over a saucepan of green tomato chutney which turned out well but only managed to make enough to fill 2 jam jars. The thought of going through all that again with about 10 kg of tomatoes, puts me off! lol

I think the clue ids in the name. Bread makers make bread, including mixing proving, resting and baking. None of these relate to chutney.
Get a copy of Delia
Get a bigger saucepan?
You an make chutney in a slow cooker - http://slowcookerreci...it_chutney_recipe.htm

My bread maker has a jam setting so I thought that perhaps it would also cook chutney. However, the slow cooker method looks a good way forward.

Thanks for your replies!
Sorry if I was flippant with the bigger saucepan quip.
That's a bit like de-tailing gooseberries in a potato peeler machine (in the days when we had those).... my sister tried it, the gooseberries didn't last long!
Ruthandsam I take back my reply. My bread maker and the others I have come across just do bread. If it it does jam then chutney may be a possibility

Hmmm - I've never made jam in the bread maker but I don't think that you add vinegar. That's really why I was wondering if chutney would work as they is a lot of condensing needed. Anything for an easy life!! lol
Unsurprised you have had problems finding a definitive answer. Not the sort of question one would expect to be asked. I can only suggest that if your breadmaker has a jam setting then there should be information in its manual. Why not give it a try and share your success (or otherwise) here ?
you can make jam in one so I can't see why not
i had a bread maker that had a dedicated jam/chutney setting so i would assume other models would do the same job. :-)
sorry did not see the message about your model having jam setting , i used the jam setting for chutney and it worked perfectly :-)
never tried it myself but was wondering the same thing yesterday, have just came across this link that says yes it is possible http://projects.eveningedge.com/recipes/tomato-chutney/
