Why has there been a sudden price hike?

£12! That's what they wanted for a large glass at the marstons pump house on bristol's floating harbour. Their Pinot grigio was a reasonable £6.

What was the wine as to brand, doctor b?

I didn't ask dtc. After I'd finished choking I got the OH a Pinot grigio.:)

Most places around here seem to have bumped up the SB prices recently.
DCT has a point. Majestic's price for Cloudy Bay NZ Sauvignon Blanc works out at £26 a bottle. I have a feeling you'd pay rather more than £12 a large glass if the Pump House were selling that!

Agreed heathfield. I always expect to pay more for a nz s blanc but it seems that there has been a sudden jump in its cost.
Not really doctordb - Majestic are aggressively discounting some of their medium brands - Oyster or Geesen's for example are down from £11 to around £8-50. Wholesale that would work out at around £6 to £7 a bottle, allow 3 large glasses, that would suggest £6 a glass would suggest a profit of around £12. £15 if you bump it up a pound. However £36 for 3 glasses and a nigh on £30 profit from a bottle seems a bit rich, especially if it was on a pump. For that price, I would expect free foie gras or a nice mackerel and horseradish pâté......more preferable with the NZ honey.
Cloudy B ay is hugely overpriced. Even from a supermarket in NZ it costs about nz$40.00 a bottle. Stoneleigh is just as good and other brands. As much as I like cloudy bay I refuse to pay the price.
