I find it very difficult to forgive people (well nigh impossible). My head keeps telling me "wrong me once, shame on you. wrong me twice, shame on me." Any wise words from you might help.

You don't to forgive anyone; pragmatism simply requires being as civil as necessary. Always bear in mind that negative thoughts about another person when they are not present are using up your own time.
Oh yes it was important and continued to be important for many years.
Robkep, you obviously have never been seriously wronged.

I don't forgive and I do forget.
I simply move on. Life is way too short to pander to other peoples insecurities/ misinterpretations, who then expect to be forgiven.
I was once bitten....that was the last time...
How would you measure it Rob?
Sorry I can't help much Cailin, I am the same as you. I find it very hard to forgive and I never forget. I don't let the negative stuff fill my every waking moment although certain things can bring it back to mind. I sometimes wish I could do forgiving and forgetting then I think no, they don't deserve my forgiveness.

Cailin what effect does not forgiving have on you? If you go around quite happy and unconcerned then there is no issue but if it makes you dwell on past sadness to the detriment of your own life then IMO you would be happier if you found some way to let go. I bet that many of the people who you haven't forgiven aren't aware that you haven't forgiven them and wouldn't care if they did know!

There are couple of people who used to be good friends of mine. They then decided not to talk to me and to this day I have no idea why. I wouldn't pee on them if they were on fire because of the way they have made me feel.
When I was married and part of a couple, we would go out with three other couples at least a couple of times a month. When I separated from my husband I was dropped like a hot potato. Hurt me very much to begin with, but decided it was their loss and moved on.
