I am reminded of the time that the Editor of The Sun sacked the woman who wrote their daily Horoscopes. He sent her a letter that began : "As you are no doubt probably aware...........

I'll always remember Russel Grant on TV 'This Morning' when Richard & Judy were on, after the marriage of Charles & Di doing their charts & he predicted they would never be King & Queen its not in the stars he said.
Well half is true, I wonder if the other half will be right.

What I find most disturbing about fortune telling, something that would be virtually impossible to nail down, is how many times peoples destinies have been altered by how they respond consciously or sub-consciously to suggestions implanted by a fortune teller. Belief in the arbitrary alone must alter ones ability to think and act objectively and rationally.
jem I wonder if he meant they will never be King and Queen together ?

I once went to a 'fortune teller' when at the seaside for a bit of fun. She told me I would have a child (a boy) later in life and I thought no way as I never particularly wanted kids, BUT I did have a baby boy at 38 which wasn't planned, but is very much loved.
Cast enough seeds into the wind and some are bound to fall and germinate, mostly as weeds. The trickery is not even clever; anyone can do it since generalities happen to everyone, but if you believe in crap you will believe anything. If anyone could foretell the future he/she would be immensely rich overnight.
i've never understood how shuffled tarot cards can have any relevance to the random person sat in front of them
I have been to a medium and was convinced that she was genuine. She is also a pillar of the community with a very responsible job and told me things about my family and my late wife that she would not have a clue about as she lived 120 miles away from me. The only person who knows if the 'reader' is genuine is the person who is being 'read'. I am sceptical about people like these but for me she was the real deal.
I predict a lovely time ahead for welshie !!!
A good Tarot reader will never ever tell the sitter what to do, Neither will they tell the sitter if a very bad card comes up.Tarot is not Clairvoyance or Mediumship, though some Tarot readers are also clairvoyant or clairsentient. Tarot reading was the 'counselling' of years ago -a third party to visit to get your head around problems and try and sort them out. Most people who visit a Tarot Reader know what they are going to do but just need reassurance they are doing the right thing or are on the right path. If Tarot or Mediumship is done correctly it can give comfort and guidance -done improperly or for ulterior motives its very bad. I've had some ridiculous readings of both cards and hands which were both inaccurate readings of the cards on the table and blatant guesswork. I was once told by a gypsy at a local market my husband wore a uniform -good guess since we lived near a RAF airbase -but totally wrong. people cannot foretell the future -thats ridiculous.
Has to be said, I've never thought of it that way before. Interesting post, morrigan.
