My dog has this on her left elbow. http://www.flickr.com/photos/38603329@N07/sets/72157634785301805/
I have shown it to the vet before (about 6mths ago) and I said I’m a little concerned. He asked which side she tends to lie on (it is her left side and this is her left elbow) then he said he thought it was a callous and to keep an eye on it.
Now it seems that the skin has got thinner (it really did seem like tough, almost leathery skin before) but now if you put your finger over it and move it, it’s as if the vein has been emptied and the blood then rushes back in as you take your finger away, rather like a varicose vein.
Your thoughts please friends?
Many thanks in advance

Most dogs get odd lumps as they age and most turn out to be fairly innocuous . How old is she?

she's about 5 or 6 but we only got her 2 and half years ago. We prob only first noticed the lump/callous about a year ago ish.
It does look like varicose veins, although I have never seen anything like it on a dog before (bearing in mind I have not had much experience, only with my daughter's dogs.) I think as she has had it for over a year if it was anything really bad it would have progressed much more. Has it got more painful or grown bigger?
That's a bit on the young side for age related lumps. I guess you have to go along with your vet and monitor the size and appearance unless it is causing her discomfort. Good luck with her.

Thanks folks, it's not bothering her or getting any bigger, so until we have to take her (to vet) about anything else I'll leave it for now. Will mention when I next take her. You've put my mind at rest. Obviously we'll continue to keep an eye on it.
It does look like a callous or she is growing testicles on her elbow.

It is, as Seadogg says, common for dogs to grow lumps and bumps as they age but human nature and love for our hairy friends means that we will worry.
