Beeb 1 now, is she trying really hard to look geeky, or am I being cynical?

She is an actress and a luvvie.

we lived across the road when I had my first babe…dont think her parents approved of young families in the street.
I did comment to Mrs O that she looked like someone straight out of the 1940s French Resistance.

Anyhow, the prpgramme was a bit if a squib really. She didn't really find out why she never knew her paternal grandparents at all - evne though they knoew of her, it was an odd mystery and I can't belkieve it was just down to the mum not liking them. At least when she became the Rowntrees girl the dad mught have said, your grandad worked for them ... or something. And how come the cousins in their 20s didn't let her know her granny had died?? All very odd.

So it got to a point, a little dreary and run of the mill, adoption, workhouse, poverty, babies out of wedlock etc etc, and then suddenly they remembered she had a famous grandad on her mothers side. It was bland to say the least.
She is an actress and a luvvie.
I was thinking along those lines too, rather Allo Allo, why wear a hat indoors, visiting friends, family it's not usual, unless perhaps one has problems with the hair, hairdo.
I find pathetic little twee voices on women quite horrible. But she looks good for her age and I quite like her style, except for the goggles.
As you have all probably noticed I am a bit critical of some tv programmes but I have to say I quite enjoyed this.I think a lot of you are forgetting that the programme only lasts an hour and therefore a lot of the points you have raised may well have ended up onthe cutting room floor.
I quite enjoyed it purely because my mother's family was a 'Rowntree' family and I was born a couple of streets away from Una's lot. I also had a great uncle who died of TB in the York Union workhouse which figured in last night's programme.
I watched the repeat last night and thought it was very interesting. I didn't know anything about her great grandfather and it fascinated me to know how these city garden areas came about.

And as for Una Stubbs, she looked fine to me.
I enjoyed the programme - I thought she looked great, it's her style and it suits her very well. Nobody has to go into the cream raincoat these days when they turn 70 - what you would have had her wear? Miserable bunch!
