Upper Arm Pain

Have had pain for 2 months now. Put myself on a course of ibuprofen, but it hasn't helped.

Any ideas what the pain could be? I can stretch my arm behind my back and lift it, no problem (although lowering it back down hurts). The pain comes sometimes with small hand movements and also when bringing my arm across my body. If I pull my arm in close to my body it's at it's most painful.

These days I hate to bother a doctor, so just keep hoping it will go away, but now it's feeling worse and I'm waking up in the night with pain.

Sqad, forgive me for interrupting, I've had pains mainly in my left shoulder for months now. They sometimes travel to my upper arm and occasional my lower arm as far as my wrist. I'm a pretty heavy smoker. I'm left handed and for 40 years have done a v physical job. A lot of heavy carrying on my left shoulder. Again sorry for interrupting but I've often meant to fao you and couldn't resist this oppertunity.
Don't want to go to doctor unless I'm going to keel over with a heart attack or something.
Apologies to Voulezvous, of course. Once I'd started typing I couldn't remember your name, lol.
Perhaps we have something similar.
Ps. Sqad, worked in all weathers and have osteoarthritis? In my knees if that has a bearing.
Hi!Svejk,

From what you say, I am sure that your pains are osteo arthritic (wear and tear) in nature, but with you mentioning the left arm pain and the fact that you are a smoker, I would advice that you see your GP and ask him if he would consider a chest X-Ray.

Might be a smart move and no, i was not thinking about a heart problem.
Thanks sqad. That was in the back of my mind. Too scared to go,lol.
I'll try.

Hi sqad, yes, I'm a smoker. It is only in my left arm (I'm right handed). I realise that I must see a doc to get proper answers. I'm taking note of what movements hurt, to give the GP a better idea..............thanks everyone for their input.
