A couple of days ago I posted the following........

I recently sold a camera on ebay for about £220. The buyer paid for the item firstly via e cheque as he said his paypal funds were low. He sent a message to apologise and said if I wasn't happy with this method of payment I could cancel the transaction he will pay via paypal. In the same message he asked if it would be possible to send to a different address to the one registered with his paypal account. This was on Tuesday 16th. I said I will cancel and true to his word he sent payment today. It has gone through paypal and is in my account now. Today, after he sent payment he also sent a message to ask if I could possibly send it today special delivery with sat guarantee so it gets there tomorrow.

I managed to do this for him. It cost a little extra but he said he will send the extra via paypal to make up for it.

I asked him if he wanted me to send it to the corrected address he sent to me via ebay and he said to use a different one!!! That's a different one to the one linked to his paypal, and a different one to the first corrected one. So 3 separate addresses.

I was rushed when I sent this item so didn't really think much of it at the time. It was only afterwards when I read the paypal payment email and it said something along the lines of 'THIS ITEM IS ELIGIBLE FOR SELLER PROTECTION, YOU WILL NOT BE COVERED IF.......and one of the reasons was IF YOU SEND ITEM TO A DIFFERENT ADDRESS THAN THE ONE LINKED TO PAYPAL.

I have done this but surely if Ive done everything through ebay, paypal and even sent special delivery with tracking number I should be covered should anything go wrong???

Does this sound dodgy?

Can the paypal money from him (now in my account) get reversed in anyway?

Thanks

............People have since got back to me with answers that did concern me.
Hopefully, it appears that everything is OK. I sent him an email through eBay to tell me when he received it......which he did. He also sent a message to say he's been using it all day and he absolutely loves it. ( This was yesterday) He has also already left positive feedback for me. Surely that suggests its all OK or could it still be dodgy??

Thanks

I can't see how you could be. Keep carefully the messages from him confirming that he has the camera and is pleased with it and move the money out of your paypal account.
It sounds very promising. You do get the odd buyer who gives you concern, but as woof says, keep all the correspondence safely for a few weeks until the time in which he can retract is passed.
In the scenario I described on the other thread - eBay and PayPal accounts hacked - then, yes, the payment can be reversed months later when the real account holder realises what's gone on (or the fraudster's mate, depending on how cynical you are).

I should stop fretting about it, but keep all the information you have.
I have known cases where a buyer has collected the item after paying by PayPal. The seller has obtained a signed receipt with the buyer's name, address, phone number, eBay id stating the item was collected at (time) on (date).
In two cases the seller took photos of the buyer and even the car registration number.

The buyer, weeks later, successfully gets a refund for 'item not received' as the seller cannot provide a tracking number that proves the item was delivered to the PayPal registered address.

It sucks, but that how it works. PayPal and eBay are fantastic if you understand the rules. If you don't, or try to save money on postage by sending via standard parcel post or 1st class, or try to accommodate the buyer by sending to a different address or allowing collection, you have no protection whatsoever from fraudsters.

Hopefully, this will be a genuine buyer, bobby, but PLEASE understand and follow the rules next time you send anything you can't afford to lose.
The smartest fraudsters are the ones who lull you.
Ebay has the facility to store at least 2 addresses (could be more)
You can have your billable address and you can set up a separate delivery address. You might want to do this for example if you were buying a large item as a gift for someone.

I was thinking I might send an email (his actual email address linked to ebay ) but not through eBay.........if that makes sense?

Just so if the eBay/PayPal account was hacked then his actual email address would, I assume be the actual person so I would find out for sure whether the genuine person bought it or not?

What do you think?

Also, just looked at recent feedback and there are 2 very recent positive comments. (One from today and one from yesterday) from people who have bought something from the same guy that bought my camera. So, again that suggests the guy is legit as the same person wouldn't be selling.........and even if the account was hacked and the real buyer made these two recent transactions (2 sales) he would have noticed that he had a bogus sale from me and got in contact.

Sorry to keep posting, I will eventually let it drop, just trying to convince myself its OK.

Thanks
