Not had it done personally but I work in the Operating Theatre where such procedures are carried out on a regular basis.

From what I can gather the surgery is generally just about 100% successful(I've never seen anyone have to come back to have it repeated or 'patched up'/improved, but that's not to say it's a possibility as with any other type of surgery). Recovery rates are now dramatically increased as it is performed laparoscopically(keyhole) meaning less time in hospital. Relief from reflux problems occurs within days by all accounts.

Best of luck.

thanks for that. It's not me its mr kazza12345 - he had the surgery yesterday, which i had encouraged him to go for ... when i wrote the above i had just come back from the hospital where he had just come back from surgery - he looked like death warmed up, was in pain and still burping away like a good 'un and i suddenly had a crisi about whether i had done the right thing by encouraging him - your post really really helped.

Btw if anyone else has had it done please feel free to contribute

i had the Nissen fundoplication done laparoscopically several years ago. It apparently didn't work so i stayed taking a prescription pill twice a day. The pill has eliminated the reflux problem.

In my case it wasn't worth it but i am probably one of a very low percentage where it doesn't work.

If i remember correctly it was only a few days after the surgery until i was eating regular meals again.
