I joined the AA breakdown last year for £30 This year they have kindly upgraded me to Silver for £59.50.and will debit my account. There is no choice to obtain the old price except of course to cancel (which is what other people have done and joined the RAC). Do they do this in the hope people will not notice. Only last week I received a circular from the AA offering membership for £39 with a £20 voucher. I have since been on the web and find that the RAC are offering this for £29. My choice is obvious

yes, yes, ring them up and tell them the RAC are offering what you want for half the price. Chances are they will immediately cut their own rate. I get this every year, and they've never failed to match the cheaper rate. They're just relying on you not being bothered to do so.

I can't tell you how annoyed I am when companies only offer their special deals to new customers!

What about a bit of loyalty to existing customers!

No wonder people change service providers every year.
AA quoted us £104 to renew this year. Could have got the same service from RAC for £72. I phoned the AA and "because you are a loyal member we can renew for £75"!
It may be worth a phone call. I stayed with the AA as it would probably cost £3 in phone calls to change all the direct debits.
I once put my credit card forward for a very good friend for RAC breakdown service as the guy in the street said it had to be a credit card. It took me 3 years to get my name & number removed and then my friends had to write to say they agreed ! It was a nightmare, luckily they paid me back.
I get 'free' AA membership with my car insurance.
