Ok, so I had a nice tall leafy Yucca which died on me (probably my fault), but just as I am about to throw it out (no leaves left), there is a new growth coming up through the soil, ie new green leaves. Will it be attached to the main big stalk underneath the soil (which is now a bare 4 feet stalk), or will it have its own roots? Not sure what to do but would like to harness it and make a new plant out of the new growth, what is the easy way to do this? I don't have access to sand and complicated things like that, just compost and water and baby bio : ) Thanks.

Yes, it'll be coming from the main stalk - what we did in a similar situation is just cut off most of the bare stalk, leaving the new growth to form a fresh stalk of its one.
yes boxtops is right, yuccas are very clever, you can cut off a piece of the stalk, make a slit in it and place it in compost and it will root and form a new plant, that's how I grew mine..........
