Until Christmas. They really should be spread about more. How about moving the May day holiday to October. May be calling it Trafalgar day or moving it to Halloween and calling it Pagans day. God I hate Christmas.

That is understandable, then, sally
And not wishing her away at all but one day we CAN do what we want!!
But we here in Wales had an extra Bank Holiday on the 17th of April this year, so I am not complaining !

what was 17 April for, then?
Can I ask, for those who are retired, etc, what difference does it make how many and when bank holidays are?
evian, that was my thought ^^ - and while we work, we never do anything special on BHs anyway, the roads are always too crowded to enjoy going out.
Glad I wasn't the only one wondering. Just in case anyone thinks it, that wasn't a question to get a dig in at anyone, I'm genuinely curious.

I don't do anything special on them either, they're just another duvet day normally.
17th April is a special day - it's my birthday!! I believe it was Maggie Thatcher's funeral too!
The only bank holidays I get off are Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Monday is my normal day off so I miss out. And when Christmas, Boxing and New Years Days fall on Sunday and Monday - I miss out on those too :-(
Lynda, that used to happen to my sister, but these days you ought to get a day off in lieu. My sister job-shared and it was always the other person who benefitted from the Monday BHs - so my sister negotiated so they were both on the same T&Cs. We get 8 BHs automatically in our annual leave allocation, so if we are working the Monday we get another day off instead.
I only get the day off in lieu if I work the bank holiday unfortunately
I'm in favour of having a Thanksgiving Day in November - thanks for having got rid of those pesky upstarts on the other side of the Channel - Come to think of it, we could have the AOG Emigration Day to celebrate the removal of folk from the UK......

Seriously, a day then would be a good block to Christmas - in the States, Thanksgiving is a lovely festival as the commercialisation is minimal, and all the sharingans, (my new AB word for shenanigans), for Christmas is put back until the weekend after, meaning roughly a month maxiumum.......wouldn't be a bad idea for here. Call it Family Day or something like that.
The only guaranteed day off for me is Christmas Day - I even worked Easter Sunday!!
sorry the ATLANTIC - what am I thinking....
