can my bank get hold of my mobile number without me giving it to them? it might seem an odd question but my bank sent me an text to remind me of an appointment, and I am positive I have never given it to them, when I asked about it they just said it was on their system so I must have, but I am sure I did not.

You may have given it to them. I would say it is a good idea to let them have it. I was once called by bank security while abroad to tell me there had been an odd transaction, which turned out to be a fraud, so quite important that they were able to contact me.

thanks grasscarp, but I am certain that I did not give tha bank my mob number, I only have it for emergencies and only gave the number to close family, some funny business going on I think.
Have you ever given it to them to phone you back for anything, they would have then put it on the system. Very unlikely that they would have the time or inclination to go looking for unerhand ways to find it.
