Welcome to Title Builder Beta.

This small piece of kit is designed to make building your Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle question more effective. It should make finding your question easier for others and, the easier it is to find, the more likely someone is to answer it!

To build an easy to find question title simply select the paper and quiz, enter the quiz number if relevant and fill in the Publication Date. Once you’re happy click “Build Title” and the information should populate the Title field. Fill in the final required details of your question as you normally would, and click submit.

As this is a Beta we only have a limited number of papers and quizzes listed. If you think your favourite Quiz, Crossword or Puzzle should be listed here don’t hesitate to contact us.

Remember: You do not have to use the title builder - simply enter the title and question as you normally would and click submit!

3 down must be sardonyx (a stone), sardo is roads running, NY is US city but what is the X for? Is it like 4x4, which is also read as 4 by 4? I do like to know exactly how the clue fits! Anyway, I've finished this Xword now, so if anyone wants any answers.... Don't know if I shall send it in though, as I was a winner with the December one - not the main winner, nor one of the first four runners-up but one of the next ten who will receive a Bloomsbury dictionary, though I haven't got it yet. If by some strange chance, mine should be first out of the bag this time, do you think they check back on previous winners and reject any who've previously won? Is it worth the price of a stamp? I'd be interested to know if anyone knows what the policy is in general, not just with Saga.

a little time back whitehill, a kind member on this site reminded me that in algebra (and crosswords) x, y and z are used as "unknowns". I don't know what the wording of your clue was but could this be a factor?

The clue was: Stone roads running by under US city

so I think the X must represent by but I wasn't sure how. Always interested in learning more of the conventions used in cryptics

gotcha now whitehill! the x and "by" are both terms indicating multiplication/times. Good on ya!
