Hi, I'm looking to go camping with my girlfriend this summer in the south of France. Can anyone please suggest some good destinations, ideally by the beach, quiet campsite with shops not too far away. Also, what would be the best time to go? Any advice appreciated. Thanks

There's a fantastic site at Hourtin Plage in SW France, on the Atlantic coast. Snow white beaches, great surf and quiet. Camp site has swimming pools, games room, shops, restaurant and really good facilities with pitches set amidst pine trees. You can hear the surf from the camp site. Not the south of France I know but a great alternative.
Been here a couple of times over the years

There's an inlet and it's across the other side from Canet Plage with a boat taxi which means you can go over to town for an evening out but it's quiet when you come back.

Right on a big sandy beach, just a 15-20 miles from the Spanish border so it's not crazy like the Riviera

August is pretty crazy anywhere in the South of France so if you can go just before the school holidays that's going to be cheaper and nicer
my parents live in Argeles sur Mer. It's "camping central" in the summer so wouldn't recommend it to anyone who's looking for the quiet life, but Jakes's suggestion is good - as would this place be
