Thank you for your offer,elliemay1.I'll struggle along for a few more days then I'll be happy to get your help. Thanks again.
You're welcome, quinie.
boysinblue68 - i'll give clues instead of answers when you and your mates stop hassling people for posting questions on this site.
Bibblebub, any answer/clue for No. 96? Racking my brains!
Bibblebub - I suggest you read the original post again - "clues only please". When a question setter says please do not ask for help on Q&A sites, then I see no reason why those quiz rules should not be adhered to?
boysinblue, have you a clue for No.96, pretty please??
Hi,KUSTARD, if that's your dog in your avatar it doesn't look the type to ?. I'v thought of an answer to no96 but not really convinced it's correct.
First word- a six-letter word you might put in your garden to help plants grow. Change the third letter for a word to describe the elderly.I'm logging off now but hope the clue helps. If it's wrong someone else might help.
Sounds good to me quinie...Night x
That sounds right, quinie. Well done!
since all the postings have been on here and shudder to think how many outright answers have been given, again, I have lost another few sales of future quizzes.
Really not sure how to overcome this matter but think I will go back to the no asking stage as it seems to be the best solution, people obviously will rebel but I think those who continue to support it, for the charity will stay on board and respect the request.
You could have saved me a sleepless night Quinie!!!! The answer came as I was dropping off - I just logged on to give my clue of Something you spread on fields and Victor to see what you thought.
Quizmouse. I think you are wrong in what you say. OK some answers given and not clues but at that late stage I can't envisage anyone sending for a copy. If everyone made the ruling not to ask for answers then the quiz site would be defunct. OK, there might be a few self righteous whingers who just want to win (and I personally have always donated any winnings back to the charity concerned) and say they won't do your quizes but I think a lot more will do them because they have been put off by never being allowed to ask. Yes, you work hard for the charity but, apart from people donating, surely it is for their enjoyment too. Would appreciate any one else's comments.
You have your opinion of course, but as a matter of interest I have had a request for a copy of the quiz just this morning. there have been around 40% of the answers given out on answer sites to my knowledge and thats without sites I know nothing about. But so many of those entering are so pleased when I request no asking (tho some of course still do) that I feel its the right way to go. its a bit lke googling at pub quizzes, its just not fair!!
Not sure of the answer but I just read all the valid comments on the sheets returned and know that so many are unhappy with the answers being given, and often so long before the cut off date.
Bring back fundraising quiz site, people were a lot more sympathetic to this problem on there, then I wouldnt need to look on here so often.
Hi.KUSTARD,that was a really good clue you thought up.(I remember Victor ?!!!)I think it's more fun to try to give clues instead of answers (if requested) though it's sometimes a bit difficult.I must admit I don't think it's acceptable for people to ask for help when the quiz is just out and has months to run.I appreciate some like to get them finished quickly. Let's hope it doesn't affect the sales too much-I'm sure most quizzers do them for fun and to support the cause, not for the prizes.
The trouble is that the majority of those who answer and I dont mean on this thread particularly either dont buy quizzes or buy very few and they dont need to. They can just come on here several times a day and work out dozens of answers so the charity loses out in that way. If people are doing the quiz for fun or going to give the winnings back then why cant they send it in with blanks. People ask anagrams you point them to the anagram site but they still dont use it and ask on here, chambers for link words, reverse dictionary for new shoots etc I support you quizmouse and you know that lots of others do too
I do a quiz that states no putting the quiz on the internet. I have only ever seen one question on here and no one answered it. She also states that the questions and answers on said quiz are her intellectual copyright, wether this is something that can be proved I do not know.

I will continue to buy MAGPAS quizzes in spite of all the asking. I sent the entry fee for the last one but not the quiz. I explained to Quizmouse the reason for this was all the answers given on here made it a pointless exercise.
We have been over this many times and I suspect we will never come to a concensus. Many, if not all, of us quiz setters create them on a voluntary basis to raise money for a cause thay means something to us, and yes there is some degree of personal satisfaction in setting a good quiz. But it takes many hours hard work to set and check a quiz and to see the answers of your carefully crafted questions being given away within days of the quiz being annouced is very disheartening.
If the setter politely requests that you do not ask for answers either at all or until a cut off date I think it is only fair to respect the request.
I have seen it said many times that you don't need to look at the answers given but that is easier said than done when the first few pages of a Google search give links to AB pages.
Several setters have already given up as a result of their quizzes being ruined and sales dropping because of the number of answers given away. If that continues we could get to the stage where there are no questions to answer other than commerically produced crosswords and newpaper puzzles.
Well said smouse, chorley and pedro.I dont set quizzes but it disheartens me when i see questions (often fairly simple) being asked within days (not hours) of my receiving a quiz. I don't begrudge anyone help but do feel that more people should try harder.
Thanks fgor the support folks. It can take many, many hours working out the quizzes, unlike some who take them from other quiz sites and 'twist' them to suit. I do try and think up clues myself (if thats not obvious), and it takes a long time. Of course I do it willingly for the charity and enjoy doing it, but I am saddened when those paying to enter and enjoy it are put off by so many requests for help and so soon, I feel obliged to try to sort out a solution (no success so far ).I have 'tongue in cheek' suggeted that for an additional charge, I snd out a copy of the answers with the quiz and save them all the bother of struggling!!!
I wonder if they would be happy if in exams in school etc the entrants were allowed smart phones? My take on it is that you pay to enter and therefore it should for the most part be your own work and research, obviously you will ask mates etc but there should not really be the need to ask quite so many on sites like this.
Still, we wont solve it but we will keep trying...
