Sounds like a threat from the Mafia.
Tell the truth. Even a young child may have to understand what's happened when their grandparent dies. Why then should we lie about the death of a pet? Understanding that will help the child when a human dies. That, at least, is where the church comes in handy; telling a child that the deceased has gone to Heaven is easier for the child.
(mags, the grapes are a reference to a bottom issue I'm suffering at the moment. Don't worry, I've not gone all healthy!)
@2sp -oh thanks for that lol! piles not grapes -its getting worse -I'm on a diet and your creme eggs were the nearest thing i was getting to chocolate ;-)
The lady in question made the decision not to let on, the others are merely helping her with her decision.

Yes I think it better the child learns that death is a natural part of life, but not knowing the child I'm unsure I can call the best course of action in their case.
We buried my nieces dog last week. It was wrapped in a blanket and her children wanted to have a look. My niece didn't want to look, so she turned away while I showed them that the dog was at peace. They then went off to find special stones to top the grave. Job done. No problem.
I usually prefer to tell children the truth about pets dying, but for a four year old, I woundn't object to a fib/replacement to spare his upset.

He is, at four, little more than a baby, IMO. Once he gets to 8...that's a different matter.

*wouldn't*
